2012 to Current
Executive Editor, VoiceWaves –  a project of New America Media
I manage and train a group of about 18 young community reporters ranging in age from 16 to 25. We produce an online publication and quarterly newspaper in Long Beach. Through a partnership with CSULB, I also serve as a news director for the journalism senior seminar– a class required of all journalism seniors. We also produced a six-episode TV news show called, NewsLongBeach, that aired on public access television in 2013.

Image and audio editing, conducted background research and aided in TV production.

Freelance Location Producer, Futuro Media Group
In pre-production, I served as the on-the-ground local journalist, researching and putting together the pieces for an episode de-bunking the model minority myth on a PBS docu-series called, America By The Numbers. During production and post-production, I was a fixer and production assistant, casting characters, briefing the host and producer on all research and characters, and scouting the local area for b-roll shots.

Staff Writer, Irrigation & Green Industry Magazine
I wrote and researchds technical articles for two trade magazines and a weekly newsletter and assembled and maintained the online calendar section.

Online News Intern, dot429 Magazine
Wrote weekly articles pertaining to LGBTQ politics, arts or business per week for an online literary magazine catering to the LGBTQ community.

2010    
Media Coordinator, Asian Americans Advancing Justice
Coordinated all printed and online materials and media-related inquiries, for community-based campaigns. Worked with a network of about 40 ethnic community organizations in California and Washington, D.C.

Production Intern, BBC America
Assisted in radio reporting on the field during 2008 presidential election campaign in Washington, D.C.

Crime & Justice Reporter, Capital News Service
Wrote a variety of breaking news and feature stories for a DC-based newswire, with clients from 14 local newspapers, including the Washington Post and the Baltimore Sun. I covered issues like the prison industrial complex and decisions made by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Journalism Fellow, Population Connection
My responsibilities included background research and composition of fact sheets, writing and producing articles for the quarterly magazine, The Reporter, creating press kits for the organization and other duties as needed. Issues covered environmental justice and reproductive rights.

Managing Editor, Beverly Hills Weekly
Produced an alternative weekly newspaper, wrote an average of three to five news and feature stories per week, oversaw three columnists and several freelancers and was involved in every aspect of newspaper production from beginning to end. Other duties included overseeing graphic design while utilizing Quark Xpress, coming up with story ideas and copyediting.

Wrote about local and university news as part of the City News staff. Also wrote film, restaurant, theater and event reviews as well as features about newsmakers as part of the Diversions staff.
